Janine is passionate about building strong, connected communities through food, land, and shared experiences. She works at Evermeadow Farm, where she supports regenerative practices, including rotational grazing and reseeding pastures to restore soil health and biodiversity. Her work has deepened her appreciation for local food systems and the ways agriculture can foster community resilience.
Janine co-founded The Village Green, an initiative in Northumberland that brings people together through art, food, and the environment. Their recent barefoot walk allowed participants to connect with the land, learn about local plants and animals, and engage with local producers.
She holds a B.A. in Conflict Studies and Human Rights from the University of Ottawa and is currently completing a Certificate in Food Security at Toronto Metropolitan University. Inspired by early experiences volunteering at her mother’s soup kitchen, Janine is committed to using food as a tool for connection, equity, and community building.
Outside of her work in agriculture and community initiatives, Janine explores her creative side through sewing, bookbinding, and paper making. She is also deeply drawn to cooking, using it as a way to connect with her Portuguese heritage by learning and preserving traditional family recipes.
